Welcome in my blog !
First let me tell you that, as it is the translation of a French blog, I use the metric system for my measurements and all the temperatures are given in Celsius !

New category: I tasted it for you. The idea is to pick up random products that are unknow to me, to taste them, cook them, describe them and give my opinion on them.

Enjoy !

I tasted it for you: the prickly pear

I continue to try new fruits (new to me, that is). Sometimes, it can be risky, like for this one: what I discovered afterwards is that the skin of this fruit is full of small needles. It’s the fruit of a cactus!

I thought it would me good to see how good the fruits were by pressing them with my fingers (gosh, I can be so stupid. Who said that "Ignorance is blessed"? Ignorance is needles in all the fingers, that’s all I know!!)

Lucky you, I told you the needle parts, and methods exist to peel the fruits without suffering. You can use a fork to manipulate the fruit, cut it in 2 and take the flesh with a soup spoon.

The prickly pear is from South America. As for the pitaya, several colours exist, like red (and yellow, but you have seen this already).

Here is what you get when you open the fruit. It is tender and juicy, with some seeds. I liked the taste: fresh and not too sweet.

I chose a recipe to eat them!!! I made a sauce that I used in a verrine.
