Welcome in my blog !
First let me tell you that, as it is the translation of a French blog, I use the metric system for my measurements and all the temperatures are given in Celsius !

New category: I tasted it for you. The idea is to pick up random products that are unknow to me, to taste them, cook them, describe them and give my opinion on them.

Enjoy !

I tasted it for you: the kumquat.

After my experiment with the pitaya, I decided to continue to try new ingredients. Sometimes it can be risky, but it is very funny.

Today’s fruit is the kumquat. I had seen it quite often, but I had never tasted it. The kumquat is a citrus fruit that comes from China. Its name means golden orange. The difference with the regular citrus fruits is the size! The kumquat has the size of a big olive:

You can eat them as it, with the skin (there won’t be much left if you peel them! But I found them quite bitter. I looked for recipes and I found out they are often eaten candied.

Here is what you see when you open them.

It’s a very small orange.

To cook my kumquats, I made tartlets.

Another nice surprise: when I candied my kumquats, I also accidentally made marmalade! It was delicious.
